Gods of Rap brought together 3 of Hip Hop's biggest bands for a European arena tour – Wu Tang Clan, De La Soul and Public Enemy Radio – and hosted by DJ Premier.
A tour of this size gave us the opportunity to create and curate a unique experience of visual content of graphics, video, animation and typography. Every show was different, from the order of set list to what was happening that day in each city – From winning football and hockey teams in Amsterdam & Helsinki to standing up against bigoty in Glasgow, standing with the Yellow vests in Paris and standing up to Brexit & Trump everywhere.
The brief demanded content should have an authentic analogue feel – The technology should deliver the creative ideas, not drive or influence its thinking. Graffiti, B-Boying, DJing and the Emcee are the 4 pillars Hip Hop is built on. The graphics and content should reflect and reference these pillars whilst paying homage to Public Enemy’s journey over the past 30 years and beyond
I was commissioned directly by Chuck D for this project because not only did I have all the creative and technical skills to deliver but also a deep understanding of the visual DNA of Public Enemy as I've collaborated on a wide range of creative projects with Public Enemy for nearly a decade
